Description:
!924 Spenard and Hood Lakes are joined to form the largest float plane airport in the world located in Anchorage, Alaska. Well over 400 float planes use this lake daily during the summer month and during the winter they use ski's on the planes. The area has two lakes joined together by a hand dug channel making the waterways directional to the weather. The original painting hangs in the Holiday Express Hotel at the Airport in Anchorage. The Travelair bi wing was the first float plane in Alaska and was flown by Russ Merril who died in a plane crash some time in 1929. One of the airfields in mid town is name after him.
